Dear friend,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Mayyim Hayyim, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Julie Childers as Mayyim Hayyim’s next Chief Executive Officer. Following a search process led by a committee of board members and community partners, the Board voted unanimously
to select Julie for this role.
Julie is a nonprofit executive leader, with extensive experience in
the fields of education, women and girls’ health, and Jewish philanthropy.
She is the past Executive Director of Our Bodies, Ourselves and former Vice President of Education at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Boston College and brings a people-centered mindset along with data-driven sensibilities to her leadership.
With more than two decades of professional and volunteer involvement in organized Jewish life — including at Gateways, Temple Israel of Boston, Temple Shalom of Newton, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles — Julie is passionate about creating inclusive spaces to help people find holiness, wholeness, and meaning at pivotal moments in their lives. Mayyim Hayyim holds a special place in her heart. In 2006, Julie immersed at Mayyim Hayyim and officially joined Klal Yisrael, the Jewish people. That experience remains one of the most meaningful moments of her life, and it continues to inspire her commitment to the Open Mikveh Movement.
We will soon be issuing this press release, but we wanted you — our most valued supporters and community members — to be among the first to hear the exciting news about Mayyim Hayyim’s new leader.
Over the next several months, there will be many opportunities to get to know Julie, and she is eager to connect with and learn from you! If you would like to schedule a meeting with Julie, please email transition@mayyimhayyim.org.
Julie brings a dynamic mix of vision, strategy, and heart to lead Mayyim Hayyim into its next chapter. I look forward to all the ways she will impact our community. Thank you for your partnership on this journey together.
Warmly,
Elisha Gechter, Board President
